One who is subversive tends to override and or undermine societal norms.
What are incidents of subversiveness in the movie? It does not need to be only in regards to Katherine Watson. An incident of subversiveness in the film is when Betty Warren decided to file for divorce from her husband. She decided that she no longer wanted to be inclined to a man who had no disregard for her. By doing this she displayed that a woman needs no man to empower herself and thus a woman can be independent. I do believe females need to be subversive at this day and age because, being a woman is still seen down upon. Those who are female, are still seen as the second gender. Women don't receive equal pay as men, nor respect, and exceeding standards of beauty; and this has to change. Females need to be empowered to speak up for what they believe and desire in order to be equal as men; or the scales will on forever be imbalance.
What are some real world examples of subversiveness in the 21st century? It does not need to be about women.
What comes to mind when I think about subversiveness in the 21st century the word LGBT comes to mind. This is a community of individuals who have and will forever overruled what it is to be normal. Yes, those who identify as gay, lesbian, transgender and etc. aren’t shunned as they once were; but it is still not seen as just. Those part of these community can't love who they yearn to love, because loving the same sex and being transgender simply isn't equal in comparison to a female and male relationship and identify with a different gender.
