Real Talk Analysis

Real talk. I hate texting people. One, because I am lazy and don’t always feel like typing paragraphs to people about my day. Two, it’s not even real conversations. And three, I love talking to people on the phone, texting just seems very introverted. So why are we still texting and not talking on the phone anymore?

I got this idea today when I saw my friend for lunch. And she mentioned to me she was in a car accident Monday. Mind you today is Wednesday when I found out. And I was in shock and I was asked if she was okay and usual items you ask someone. And I asked her why she didn’t tell me sooner, and she said she felt it wasn’t text worthy. She said it was more personal than simply texting me saying “hey I got into a car accident today”. And I said you could have called me, and that didn’t seem to dawn on her. This made me realize how little people call each other nowadays and no one sits on the phone the same way as people used too.

So my only way of talking to people was calling them. I had a list of numbers and I would call them after school and we would talk for hours. When I think about it, they were very happy memories. Then when I got a cell phone, I would rarely text. I would get an address for somewhere and make plans quick, but never to have full length conversations. I would still call my friends all the time. Some of them thought it was weird because they would always text. And when I would call some they didn’t know how to talk on the phone. Yet when they would text me they can tell me everything with great detail.

This week’s reading made me introspect about my personal opinions and emotions during crucial conversations. Honestly, I was taken aback when Patterson Grenny, McMillan, and Switzler(2012) discussed we, ourselves are the reason to create emotions that upset us (frustration, anger, fear, and insult). Further, the authors discuss that once these emotions are created we either act on them or be acted on by them (p.104). Last week, I faced a not-so-pleasant situation with one of the certified nursing assistant(CNA) in my facility.…

My first initial thoughts after viewing the film smooth talk was mixed between being very disturbed and confused to feeling major suspense by trying to what the heck was going on in this movie. When Arnold first appeared at her house to see Connie he came off as little too friendly and more suspicious to me. Like Connie his arrival at the house came off as a surprise and very odd. At first Arnold was calm and friendly but his random outbursts of wrath shouting cruel words to his passenger in his corvette. Arnold is very persistent with her telling her that she’s his lover and to come in the car with him that it’s all going to be okay.…

    1. I think that I would rather have a conversation with others in phone because it limits the chances of misinterpretations. I mostly text my friends or family because if they’re busy with something, it is just more convenient for them to check their phone and see that I texted them. Another great reason I rather text is because I come from a big family and if there was an emergency, one person’s text can be sent to everyone in my family text group. The only thing that I hate is because I can send anything with emotion in the message, so conflicts would arise.…

In witnessing the proper way of diffusing an inappropriate conversation in a structured treatment group, it made me realize that, as a leader by keeping calm and ending the conversation with the option of a private open discussion can make everyone else in the group still feel comfortable to share and continue to participate. I also know that I am not willing to allow all my ideas to be disregarded and or my work completely changes. Why I write Writing allows us to be able to associate with distant friends because of modern day technology for this reason, messages can be received in an instant between friends regardless how far apart they are. It also has the advantage of being a reminder of things that are likely to be forgotten. It has connected us to the past time so that we can understand past events of people who have died, as a result, they can be remembered although they are not with us. Writing joins us to other cultures, thus a language barrier can be broken and a connection can be established.…
