Having such a tough background really opened my eyes on what real success is. It's not about the possessions but more about the knowledge you obtain. To receive my doctoral degree and to help others is the true definition of success. At the age of 11 years old my father left my family including my mother and two brothers. Ever since that day I have seen my mother work double shifts totaling 15 hours on a daily basis. It tore me to see her at this tremendous amount of pain just to support my brothers and me. She at this time had to feed a household of 4 as well as pay bills. Watching my mother struggle with this amount of responsibility made me yearn for a solution. You bring in income and help where help is needed. Teenagers at the age of seventeen don’t have to pay for their clothes, cell phone, or a car. Ever since receiving the role I don’t ask my mother for any money. I honestly don't think I could. One thing the role of being an adult showed me was that if you want it, you better work hard and don’t stop until you have it. I did not choose to go to school, participate in sports, and on top of all of that work. Many of my instructors think I am insane for what I do but they all do understand I do it because I need to.
By the time I reach 30 years old I will have accomplished everything I set myself out to be. I want to be the father I never had; the degrees that both my parents were not able to attain. I want to make the people that have helped be proud of where I am now. Including coaches, teachers, and managers who pushed me to my full potential, and helped me become successful. Growing up with so many adult responsibilities could have handicapped my abilities to become something great, but it didn’t.
