Simple things such as married women had to hide their hair in order to keep men from desiring them came about. The Renaissance also happened during this period of time that involved many changes in art. Some of this change showed the artists’ perception of beauty in their works during this time whic included a lot of nudity in women. This led to a change in the concept of beauty by allowing society to accept when women showed off their breasts and cleavage; however, it also brought people to frown upon those that show their knees and/or ankles. Also, during the middle ages, pale skin became a part of the idea of beauty. This is because if a woman had pale skin, this meant that they were wealthy enough to not have to work outside, as most did, and get a tan. Therefore, this led to a change where beauty was also about being wealthy. The concept of beauty continued to change more during the middle ages as the Victorian Era came about. This is the time when beauty focused more on size than anything. Corsets began to become very popular to alter waist sizes and using iron tools in order to shape the nose.
