Reading Specialist/Literacy Coach Reflection

Decent Essays
This program has been a great journey that aided in molding and shaping me of my future role as a reading specialist/literacy coach. The courses did assist in providing information, strategies, methods, and resources that I personally now use in my own class. Furthermore, through the assignments and research I have gain a tremendous amount of knowledge that I will use to develop confidence in my craft as a reading specialist/coach. In addition, the professors in this program were all supportive and informative. Areas in this program that can use some improvement are the directions and rubrics. Although the school does provide directions to the assignment, at time the rubric may not correlate with what is expected, which can be a bit confusing

I think my reading has improved because I use better vocabulary and I can understand what I am reading. The reading strategies have helped me to become a better reader. I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty.…

Core reading programs are a huge part of curriculum in education today and it is vital that educators and administrators evaluate a program before implementing it into their school. In my evaluation between two programs, I chose to look at the Houghton Mifflin Reading program and the Harcourt Trophies Reading program. I decided that I was going to look at second grade for each program. After completing the evaluation guide, I decided to write a few pros and cons of each program.…

Sitting in the broad room with the buttery afternoon sunlight alighting upon the bookshelves, a soft voice behind me asks me to think aloud as I work with a writing scenario. I was supposed to be interviewing her, but she has turned the tables on me to think on my feet to see how I would begin the very article I am writing now. She poses questions like: Where will I start? What is the purpose of the article? Who is my audience?…

Learning to read is a skill many can obtain quickly or not so well. Myself, on the other hand was one of the many children who struggled with not only the thought of reading, but the actual process of reading not only a book, but sentences, word and sounding out words. Struggling through elementary with reading problems and on and off again help made it seem even worse. Going into kindergarten was intimidating, with all the bright colored posters with words even I couldn’t read. Having to be assigned seats next to strangers who soon would become my closest friends.…

The Literacy Narrative was sort of a trial and error project. I wrote the essay the best way I knew how and hoped for the best grade. I did though get to tackle a more creative aspect of my writing that needed much working on. Since this essay was based on our own experiences, it allowed me to be as creative as I would like rather than being confined to the requirements that something like a research paper would have. Despite this, I still realized that my Literacy Narrative was not my strongest paper.…

This course has helped me figure a lot of my strengths as a writer. I learned that I have good ideas and can be a good writer when a topic interest me. I have also learned that my grades usually reflect on how well I followed the criteria of an assignment. I realize that I have unique points of views on certain topics and often like to give my own thoughts and explanations about a topic. I also know how to be straight to the point with whatever message I try to convey.…

Receiving a grade of a 92 out of 100 on a paper is not necessarily an unacceptable outcome for many people, yet this grade was one of my lowest grades out of all my papers in English 1101. The 92 my literacy narrative earned inspired me to revise this paper for the final. My literacy narrative was my first college paper and after the two papers I have written in this class I thought I was more equipped to fix my errors within this paper. I chose to write a short story as a rendition of my literacy narrative. I thought it would be interesting to write a story through my mom’s perspective, reactions, and impact on my growth as a reader and writer.…

My Path to Literacy For a very long time writing and reading was a huge struggle for me. I was one of those students who was very intelligent, but disliked reading tremendously and was often told, “You write the way you talk”. The older I grew the more I realized that my struggles with writing was due to my lack of reading. I was aware of my issues but because it became a part of my writing habits it was hard to adapt to anything different. I wanted to be like everyone else and be a good authentic and productive writer but it seemed almost impossible.…

Let me begin by saying that my journey literacy may be far different from others due to the circumstances of my position in life. In reflecting on the greatest influences in my education, I realize they come from no-traditional sources. I have been in the workforce far longer than I have been in school. Due to this time span, I feel that my greatest influences have probably come from my bosses and peers. I spend the greatest amount of time with them on a day to day basis.…

Reading and writing is everywhere in this world and as teachers we must push our students to understand literacy no matter what content we are teaching. Literacy is included in all subjects, it might not be the main source of a certain subject but it is important in every subject. In this essay I will be discussing how the weekly reading has on reflected me and how it has deepened my understanding of theories and application of it to the real world. This reflection is based on the readings, classes and assessments that have helped me throughout the duration in business in context class and the understanding of responsible business decision making. I didn’t believe ethic was important in business and always had thought that it was something that was always irrelevant to the business world. It was to my understanding before undertaking Business in Context that business was all about profit, nothing more or else just profits. Throughout the lectures and workshop this has changed the way I look at the business world.…
