Reading Response Assignment Analysis

For most of my papers I had a pretty good understanding of what my purpose needed to be for each of them. I would have to say that I struggled more with the reading response essay more than the others because I realized that I wasn’t quite understanding what the assignment was for that paper. I liked that the essays were more personal so it made it easier to know who my audience was and what I wanted my purpose to be.
I was happy with my first essay because I really tried to make the stories and memories come to life. Assignment 1 was easy also because it was something that many people experienced and went through. In assignment 2 and the reading response I was happy with my use of evidence and images. For the reading response I made sure that

In all of my essays I tried to have my paragraphs follow a certain format. For my conclusion I would like to believe that my purpose is extended into it and that I give my readers some final things to think about. I know that I can definitely improve on my hooks between sentences and paragraphs with time I think this will become more natural for me.
I believe that my voice can be found throughout all of my papers. I didn’t really struggle with coming up with thoughts for these papers because they were important and meant something. I actively tried to make sure I kept up with the MLA standards but certain things can definitely slip though. My grammar and punctuation always need improvement. That’s why I wished that the reading response could have been turned in as a first draft so I could have got some feedback on it before I had to submit it for my portfolio.
In all my essays I tried to relate to the readers by adding specific examples that they can relate to. In other papers I need to make sure I keep doing this. I need improvement on the comprehension of my papers. What I’m thinking doesn’t clearly come out on paper

In my rhetorical essay on, On Writing Well, by William Zinsser I tried my best write an essay to effectively show my reader in what I believed. In this essay I wrote how I thought William Zinsser was very effective in proving and demonstrating his points to his readers. I went into talking about how he involved some of his points through his own writing and as he did was very effective. As I wrote my essay, I included quotes and examples that Zinsser used through the book, to show prove of what I would state and why I stated it. Throughout my essay, I had many complications in trying to get my point across due to the fact that I had trouble understanding the concept of the essay myself.…

Portfolio Assignment Throughout the Rhetorical Analysis paper that I completed for this English 101 class, I called back to many of my past experiences in high school that allowed me to interpret the meaning of the song that I decided to choose. The main skills from my past that I referenced were: my ability to comprehend text, my ability to convey a message through an essay, and my ability to view a text with an open mind. Opening my mind to the text was one of the more challenging abilities that I used. Using this ability allowed me to grasp the meaning of this particularly challenging text and, due to how easily I completed the required length of the paper, I believe that I was fairly successful in my endeavor.…

“The Power of One” also demonstrated my improved method of writing my introduction and conclusion paragraphs. I was sure to begin my essay in an interesting way by opening with a rhetorical question. On top of that I introduced the idea of “the power of one” and continued this idea by concluding my essay with it as well. In addition, in “Shift to Reality” I feel my paragraph development was strong and thorough as I examined the depth at which William Golding brings his novel to a satisfying conclusion. On the other hand, I still feel I struggle with sentence structure and awkward wording as shown in my ALS Ice Bucket Challenge essay.…

The two areas I felt confidently on were my comparisons of Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck and my grammar. The reasons Guthrie and Steinbeck were similar were solid and cohesive. It was a different topic than any of the examples and I wanted to present an idea that was not hackneyed. There was an abundance of material that proved their similarities that I could explain. My grammar was also accurate and I feel it made the essay polished.…

Most times I would simply take one sentence from each paragraph in my essay, and form one conclusion paragraph that was very repetitive, and often oddly worded. The conclusion to my narrative essay is a perfect example. Each sentence in the paragraph can be found in another paragraph throughout the essay. While I am still working to improve my abilities to write a conclusion paragraph, I believe that I have started to show signs of improvement over the course of this semester. In more recent essays, I have worked hard to summarize the essay without simply rewriting a five sentence version of the essay.…

I leaped into my college career by smoothly transitioning from high school to college with the Bridge Program. During this program, the IUPUI staff gave brief introductions and lessons on what was generally expected in college. The English portion of this program reassured me that my AP English classes that I took in high school had prepared me well enough for college writing. However, I was still a little unsure exactly how much writing was expected due to the fluctuation in course experience due to professor variance. However, after attending the first couple of classes I was once again reassured that I was prepared for this basic English class.…
