“Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter and Nicer” is an article written by Anne Murphy Paul, that was published by the New York Times June 03, 2013 and appeared in the ideas section of the publication. In this piece, Paul brings attention to the differences between online ready and offline reading and the capacities that each one produces.
In the article, Paul mentions” the deep reader”, a person who move over chooses a physical book/novel rather than reading online. Paul also states that “deep reading does not strictly speak, require a conventional book, the built-in limits of the printed page are uniquely conducive to the deep reading experience”. Which leads one to think that e-readers or kindles could also achieve the same effect. Although I choose to only read physical books, and have done so since I was younger. Merely because I feel a deeper connection and focus with what I’m reading. …show more content…
Reading a book is an experience that for me starts when that I take the book in my hands. The smell of the page, the feeling of the page on my fingertips, the ink smudge fingers and pages from a well-read book, are things that online reading lack. Being able to fully focus on what you are reading takes you to a different place, I know for me I can see myself as the character as though I’m the one experiencing what is happening. I can see the surroundings and if the book is good you get lost in it and before you know it the time has passed and its midnight. That is the down fall of online reading, the constant distractions of Facebook, pop-ups, and ads keep you from focusing on what your
