Reading Incentive Programs IR requires an investment of time. Children need time to read. Schools and public libraries develop programs intended to increase the amount and quality of reading students do.
Judy Pennington curriculum director of Russellville School district, has a strong opinion on how reading programs should work. She said in an interview recently, “I think incentive programs are as effective as the teacher in charge of the program. So if a teacher believes that students will read, sets a good example, is very passionate and displays that good attitude toward independent reading, I think the students will follow this lead, and the incentive program will work for them.” (J.Pennington, personal communication, February 8, 2017)
