In this paper, I will evaluate the role of a Reading Specialist, and how they create a curriculum that anticipates a student’s reading level. Isaac is a 10-year-old fourth grade student at Rowayton Elementary School in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is a year older than his peers because he was retained in Kindergarten due to lack of sufficient progress in both reading and math. While in first through second grades he struggled with reading skills, but was always able to meet benchmark goals throughout the school year. In third grade, Isaac could not meet benchmark goals consistently and he was entered into the SRBI process. As many teachers search for new strategies and interventions to address the lack of fluency within their reading programs, Repeated Reading (RR) appears to be a topic of curiosity. RR is an evident based strategy designed to increase reading fluency and comprehension through the development of automatic word processing and contextualized linguistic effect (Winter, 2007). The Struggles I Faced on my Journey to Literacy At a young age my journey to literacy began. I loved books and story time, especially when my mom would read my favorite bedtime stories like “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” I always loved for people to read me stories, but hated to read to others. The students should be divided equally between 2 groups with 5 students receiving inclusion for reading instruction and five students being pulled into a small group for reading instruction. Once the ten students are identified, the parents should be contacted to explain the study's research and methods. The parents will be asked to sign a release allowing their child to participate.
