When introducing a child to comprehensive literacy a major aspect that is involved in the reading and writing instructions in helping them progress on literacy development skills. Some approaches that are used to these type of instructions are read and write alongs, shared and guided reading and writing. For children that are in Pre-K to first grade it is important to have instructions that are simple and understandable when being read aloud so there will be very little confusion in the introduction to the activity that would be given at hand. Written instructions should be simple and short so the student’s attention is not lost easily with becoming confused in a large array of words placed in front of them, which can easily create frustration with the words in himself seeming overwhelming if the instructions are very verbose. Differentiated instructions is something that is very encouraged to use when working with younger children in the education field. “Differentiated instruction, also called differentiation, is a process through which teachers enhance learning by matching student characteristics to instruction and assessment. Differentiated instruction allows all students to access the same classroom curriculum by providing entry points, learning tasks, and outcomes that are tailored to students ' needs. Differentiated instruction is not a single strategy, but rather an approach to instruction that incorporates a variety of strategies. Teachers can differentiate content, process, and/or product for students . Differentiation of content refers to a change in the material being learned by a student.When teachers differentiate, they do so in response to a student 's readiness, interest, and/or learning profile.
