He bases these claims off of his own personal experience as an author. The article is published at a high point of his career, now having enough respect as an author to instruct others on the craft. King’s purpose is to instruct the reader, more specifically, young writers. He wishes to inform them of the importance of reading, and how the things you read will affect what you end up producing with your own paper and pen.…

It’s interesting, really, to see some of my old papers from middle and high school. I look back and laugh at the time, maybe around the third grade, when my classmates and I would groan and complain about having to write an ENTIRE PARAGRAPH. Now, after years of writing significantly longer academic papers that stretch far beyond a simple paragraph, my style and the depth of my topics have evolved based on what I’ve read. The most important pastime for anyone who wishes to write, unsurprisingly, is to read a wide variety of material, starting at a young age. Studies have shown that children who read more than their peers exhibit a larger vocabulary as well as more complex writing styles.…

Since the beginning of my first year at school I have been learning to read and write. Throughout these years I have had a lot of experiences with reading and writing. All through high school we would write responses and essays over books we read. Once I entered college everything changed; I began to learn about writers and people who were known because of their great works of literature. In college, you are held to a higher standard and responsibility than you are in high school; this challenge has encouraged me to work hard and because of this I have become better at writing.…

I am going to write about my Reading and Me, by Bailey Clutter. Because I agree with him because as kid I was always outside doing something like football, hunting, fishing, and playing with friends. Reading just kind of bored me you could say. Beginning from grade school through middle and high school, we learn how to read and write as we grow. More importantly, we learn how to grab and hold onto many things; the illusions that we aim to achieve, called dreams. The drive to push and better yourself to grasp onto unexpected possibilities, we call opportunities. The belief and confidence that you hold within you, we call faith. Independence as your hope, in all experiences that you’ll be able to make something towards your future.…

In my essay, I will discuss the changes I have made over the past few years and also what it would be like to not be able to read, and the effect it would have on us. Starting from fourth grade leading on to eleventh grade now. When I first started off as a reader, I struggled very much, I was not a very fluent reader, I could not read out loud, and I stuttered very much. My parents and my teacher recommended a class, that would help with the problems I had with reading. Starting in the fourth grade, I would go to a class for an hour that would help with my speech and of course the problems I had with reading.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

If you were to ask me about my high school writing experience, I would tell you that I did not have much experience. We did not have any classes at my school that were specifically writing classes. At my high school, we just had regular English classes where we would occasionally do a few papers in. My English teacher senior year was a great person, but did not necessarily teach us a lot about proper styles of writing papers. Coming into college English, I did not feel well prepared with what to expect for a college level writing class.…
