Who we are is determined by what we know, and what we know stems from what we have learned and what we have learned comes from that we have listened to, watched and most importantly, what we have read. It would be foolish to say that what we have read has not impacted the way that we live. Whether it is an idealistic young adult novel that teaches the readers to take a risk, or a depressing dystopian novel that teaches us to protect what we believe in and to not be afraid to question the world as we know it. Connecting to characters in a book is unavoidable. While you are reading a book you are cohabiting with the characters, celebrating their wins and mourning their loses, reading teaches you about empathy. It teaches you empathy in the sense

So much learning can be done from a simple story about a simple person. Literature teaches us that the simplest people can develop into the most extraordinary. A good book can free your mind and teach you how to learn about others while discovering yourself and that is most valuable knowledge a person can have. A passage of the article that stood out to me was the study conducted by Britain's National Literacy Trust. This generation is blamed for many things, such as being disconnected with the rest of the world. It is interesting to me to see more young people not enjoying what they read and compare that to the statistics of being disconnected and what appears to be heavier streaks of violence. Reading literature allows for the opportunity to see the thoughts of a person printed on a page. An author is able to strike the balance between life being black and white and explaining why the gray area of life is where you learn the most. "Oh, I saw that in a book," is a common phrase that is used to spark discussion all over the world. These discussions end up being the most impactful because it allows people to link logic and something they have created for themselves and compare it to how others linked their logic to what they created in their head. Reading increases collaboration and accepting new
