Reader's Services Assistant Job Analysis

Improved Essays
I saw the job position of Reader’s Services Assistant advertised on the Lawrence Public Library's Facebook page. I'm interested and qualified in this position - I'm outgoing, enjoy helping people and love reading and recommending new books (as well as music and even software).

My experience with freelance computer repair and volunteering has taught me how to positively interact with people and even how to defuse conflicts. I have also had to learn how to problem solve in new situations and had to learn other skills rapidly (accounting was a big surprise). There have even been times where I've had to mental health support in times of crisis and I've learned how to accommodate the unique needs of the people that I help without judgement.

This month I celebrate a 9-year anniversary working in a public library setting. When I started my library career in 2006, it was only a part-time job for me. I worked various second jobs in tandem with my page position at a small branch of a public library system while attending the University of Tennessee. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology from UT in 2009, and decided ultimately, that I wanted to pursue full-time employment with the Knox County Public Library (KCPL). A former assistant supervisor suggested I learn how to conduct storytimes for different age levels in order to develop my skill set to advance.…
