Read Aloud Reflection

The book i choose to share with students was “The Most Magnificent Thing,” by Ashley Spires. The main objective for this lesson was; that students will be able to actively listen to a story as the teacher reads aloud. Students will be asked to make predictions throughout the story. I encouraged students to consider the pictures and other clues within the context when creating predictions. The Read Aloud connected to a variety of course content and allowed me to encourage students to connect with the story by bringing the story into their own lives. After learning about literacy i discovered the benefits of using Read Alouds within the classroom. It was encouraging to discover how the Read Aloud assisted in the level of comprehension students

During family literacy night I was able to practice my DLTA lesson and my storytelling lesson. A variety of students asked to hear a story first and others asked to be read to. The book I read was Llama Llama and the Bully Goat, and the story I told was The Gingerbread Man with a different ending from the traditional story. Family Literacy Night was a great opportunity to practice my storytelling skills, and practice what questions allow them to think deeper. Although I enjoyed it there were moments that I thought about changing some questions and even changing my book.…

The Youtube video “Through Deaf Eyes’” is about how Deaf culture has changed in a positive manner throughout the years. It highlights special moments in Deaf culture, such as society attempting to teach Deaf people how to speak verbally, how Deaf people are no longer discriminated in today’s culture, and how technology has impacted the Deaf community. This documentary is a very educational video about the Deaf culture and how it has evolved. This video made me come to a realization of the Deaf Culture and how it has changed drastically over the years. In the 1800’s, Deaf people were completely misunderstood and were often seen as strange or mentally retarded (ASL IVC).…

The emotion and unique voices that our teacher would use made it seem like the story within that gigantic book came to life. A distinct book that will always stick with me would be The Very Hungry Caterpillar because of the sheer description and imagination it gave children at the time. One was lured in as the caterpillar ate on Monday, then on Tuesday and so on. Then you were pulled in emotionally as the author made the caterpillar sick from over eating and you felt sorry for the poor caterpillar. However, the author…

My teacher has guided me in reading books by interesting in-class reading resources such as How Reading Changed My Life by Anna Quindlen, and Saved by Malcolm X.
