The focus of this event was the concept of roles and the boundaries of those roles. Defining these roles is especially important when working with families due to the possible confusion of who is fulfilling which role, especially since role blurring often occurs. This allowed me to be more active and assertive in the case studies. Another aspect of professional development that was crucial was when it came to making goals for the client. Having focused on writing goals the previous week in class put me in the right mindset to think logically but also creatively about writing goals.
Aspects of Professional Identity for Growth One aspect of my professional identity that can use growth is asserting the necessity of social work in this arena. While I was able to assert my ideas regarding the case study, it still seemed that the other participants may not have realized the worth of the social workers at the table. Another opportunity for growth is making the care and goals client-centered. In some confusion regarding the role play, my group did not set the goals with the client, but even if we had, I feel that we were not making the plan about her as she saw herself, but her as we saw her.
