Re-Up Next Year Dbq Essay

Imagine traveling in the bare winds and rain, running on buffalo chips, and not a lick of sleep. This was the life of a cowboy during the long drive. These long drives took place during the Civil War and late 1800’s. Cowboys would advance herds from the southern tip of Texas to the small towns of Kansas where they would be fattened up to then be transported to Chicago where they would be slaughtered (Intro). While this trip must have been adventurous as it was difficult, the question is if I will re-up next year? No, because of three main reasons: not enough food or sleep, unpredictable weather, and low pay. The first reasons as to why I would not re-up next year are the lack of food and sleep which were common problems that put together were a hurtful blend. James E. Nature was a force to be reckoned with. It did not care to take into consideration anyone’s welfare or plans of success. The product would be a mixture of hail storms, flooding, winds, etc. Hailstorms would seemingly appear out of nowhere and pelt down with force. “The stones were hammering my head so fiercely that it seemed to be on fire.” (Document E). They were so strong and painful that James believed he would die from how much damage it was causing him. Winds and rain would frighten the cattle and disband them making it harder for the cowboys to control (Document E). The cowboys would then have to lead them back on the right path. This would prove to be yet another difficulty they must constantly deal with. Not only that but the heavy rains would lead to flooding in rivers, which would pose a threat to everyone. Horses and cattle drowned from the height of the water, and danger would be imminent as the waters flooded the bank where the cowboys were resting and threatened their lives. These unforeseeable
