Carol Ivory's article Re-Viewing Marquesan Art focuses on the need for a renewed study of Marquesan art. The factors of her study is not just reviewing Marquesan art, but also the history of the research and what is up and coming. Ivory gives a distinct history of the Marquesas Islands art and culture and how it has not received proper research and data collection. The intent of the article is to give reason to learn more about Marquesan art and give it the deserved recognition from both a historical and cultural perspective. She summarizes compares these studies and is not impressed. Clearly, Ivory's built her case for a focus on changing the focus on the research of Marquesan art. She has such passion as she builds her case to explore the evolution of the artists and the need for a better understanding. Ivory continues with her article identifying and persuading her readers her request for "fill some of these gaps, to bring some historic specificity and context to the study of Marquesan art". Four objectives Ivory presents are a means to dive deeper into researching the art. Each objective has a definite goal; gain a baseline, identify the process and development, a stylistic examination, and evaluate the artists. Basically, obtaining a data analysis of each piece individually and single out the specific images portrayed.
