Visitors from around the world are intrigued by the presence of the elite Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Aside from seeing officers mounted upon horses, their unique uniforms also catch the attention of the tourists. The history of the RCMP is very important, as it evolved into an organization of more than 28,000 members. Bill Miner was one of many people who helped outline the success of the RCMP. To begin with, the history of the RCMP is very interesting and shows how the RCMP was established. “In May 1873, the Parliament of Canada established a central police force. One hundred and fifty recruits were sent west to Manitoba. The new police force gradually acquired the name North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) (Royal Canadian…np).” The provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan contracted the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) from 1905 – 1916. Their desire to organize their own police protection ended these contracts and created the RCMP. Second, The RCMP’s uniform is very unique and recognizable all around the world.
