Raymond's Run Literary Analysis

At the end of "Raymond's Run," Squeaky has a different attitude about running and about her rival, Gretchen. In the beginning of the story, Squeaky feels very strongly about running. So strongly, that she believes shes the faster runnner. Squeaky is walking down the street with her brother Raymond and sees Gretchen and her little posse walking down the street towards them. They stop and talk to each other. Gretchen puts to the tale that she's going to win first place this year, Squeaky is almost certain that it wont happen. She negatively comments on her appearance such as her freckles and her short legs. Gretchen isnt any nicer either. During this interference, Gretchen lets her friends make smart remarks to Squeaky and her brother. Later
