In much of current day fiction literature, the side perceived as good or just will commonly win in the end. This is an extremely common cliché that plagues much of literature, and is especially especially when the author writes in static scenarios and characters just to progress the plot. In the short story “All the King’s Men” by Kurt Vonnegut there are many instances in which events happen only to progress the plot towards a “happy” ending, such as Pi Ying dying, Colonel Kelly’s son not being executed and there being no official state of war in the first place. When Pi Ying had conveniently set them up for winning, “The small man slumped on the balustrade… Major Barzov struggled with the Chinese girl.…

In “Having it Out with Melancholy” by Jane Kenyon, she uses personification to show that emotions are a battle. A second point is that your emotions will change or effect your usual behavior.…

A character's mood can help you determine many things in literature. It can tell you what the character is feeling in any type of event or how it he or she is feeling about the relationship they are in. His attitude however, he was intimidated because his father was taking control of him and making him not go to school because of “false teachings,” Miss Mckenzie had told him. Emotions are inevitable when it comes to being a human. In works of literature, the feelings that are involved are dramatized much more than they need to be. The conflict convinces the main character to feel a strong emotion by a dramatic occurrence. When these events occur, the literary elements involved in the work become stronger, making the work as a whole more eventful. Overall, characters in literature tend to have strong feelings towards certain characters that ultimately take over the literary elements of the work and make the work of literature much more original.…
