Everyone has dreams. Everyone has goals. However, some people can be over competitive as they try to follow their goals and dreams. This can make it hard to think of other people because all they think about is themselves and their own goals. They can not understand how other people feel. However, people like Squeaky, the protagonist in “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, can actually see beyond themselves. That they can learn they have many more characteristics. They can be anything. This is shown in the song, “Hall of Fame” by The Script. The song, “Hall of Fame” suggest that if you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything. Like the lines;
You could be the hero
You could get the gold
Breaking all the records that thought, never could

Breaking all the records they thought never to be broke

This relates to “Raymond’s Run” because it shows all the things you can do, and that you can be anything. This theme of believing you can do anything continues in the story, and can be seen when Squeaky gets to the race. While she is running, she notices Raymond running, She realizes that Raymond could be an awesome runner, and she could mentor him. This can be seen as, She thinks
And it occurs to me, watching how smoothly he climbs hand over hand and remembering how he looked running with his arms down to his side and with the wind pulling his mouth back and his teeth showing it all, it occurred to me that Raymond would make a very fine runner. Doesn’t he always keep up with my trots? (pg 37 line 345)

But she knows that she can not do it alone, so she thinks that her rival, Gretchen could help mentor Raymond. Hoping that Gretchen agrees, Squeaky realizes that she there is more to life than being athletic and determined. She is talented, she is forgiving, she is willing to try new things, and nice And She can be many things, not just athletic. She is willing to try new things, and be a new
