How Theme Relates To the Characters Desire

The theme of Raymond’s Run and All-American Slurp effects what the character really desires because most of the time, the theme is the conflict of the story. What Squeaky really desires is a friend besides her brother, while the theme of Raymond’s Run is the way you act affects how other people think of you. In the story All-American Slurp, the Lins want to fit in as a regular American family, but the theme of the story prevents them from doing so. The theme of All-American Slurp is different religions have different customs. Going back to Raymond’s Run, Squeaky is having a strenuous time making friends because her brother Raymond suffers from special needs and demands assistance all the time. Next, Squeaky’s competitive mindset makes her seem cocky towards her opponents, giving her a bad reputation. Also, Squeaky has trouble making friends because of her temper. Her temper makes her have a lot of insolence , causing people to want to avoid her. Thus, Squeaky wants a friend other than Raymond.

The theme; how you act affects how people think of you, causes her not to have friends. The first reason why she doesn’t have friends is her brother Raymond suffers from special needs and needs assistance all the time. Having a sibling with special needs causes people to avoid you because if they were to hang out with you, you may have to quickly leave because of Raymond. Also, Raymond just happens to have a pumpkin-shaped head, causing him to be the center of teasing and insults, not exactly boosting Squeaky’s reputation. Raymond commonly tends to act up when going for runs with Squeaky, such as disrupting city pigeons and upsetting wax paper lunches that are in the process of being
