In the beginning of the story “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, the protagonist Squeaky is very protective and aggressive mainly because of her disabled brother, she is also only in third grade and she lives in the big city of new york. But later she learns that being to protective can hurt the ones you love and other people around you.
In the beginning we can tell Squeaky is very tough and protective even though she is only a little girl with skinny arms, she is like this most likely because her big disabled brother is a big target for bullies. Also in the beginning she states “And a lot of smart mouths got lots to say about that too, especially when George was minding him. But now, if anybody has anything to say to Raymond, anything to say about his big head, they have to come by me.” This shows she is very protective of her big

As she ran the race, she noticed Raymond was running with her. And it seems as if she just changes. Because after the race she did not care who won. She was okay with the idea of someone other than her dad is faster than her. Squeaky starts to open up and she and Gretchen give each other a nice big smile a real smile. Like there were best friends forever. “We stand there with this big smile of respect between us.” This show now she can respect other people and see the good in them.
In “Raymond's Run,” we watch how Squeeky changes from a over protective aggressive person. To a vulnerable person that sees the good not the bad. I believe later in her life she will become a nice person and become friends with Gretchen her used to be friend than enemy to friend again. Because I think the smile at the end symbolizes friendship. This story teaches us to be open and make friends so you have a happy joyful life. We should all open up to others and see the good and positives in a situation or person, not the

The child is also manipulative because she uses her talent for her own desires. Other children are forced to behave according to her new rules in games and the child has “[made] herself a centre” (5) by “holding [the children] all intent” (13).…
