Anticipation is a strong emotion that when the application is correct, it can make one truly feel happy. We see this in Raymond Carver’s poem “Happiness” when he describes a childhood experience, emphasizes smiling even if one is not having a good time, and makes a connection with the wonderful nature surrounding us. Many of our happiest times come from our childhood where we always find a way to have a good time. Carver vividly describes a little boy and his friend happily delivering newspapers early in the morning when many struggle to get out of bed.
