Introduction
During the mid 1960’s through the 1970’s “the Doors” were one of the most popular rock bands in the world. Ray Manzarek played a crucial role in “the Doors” success along with the rest of the band members Jim Morrison, Robby Krieger and John Densmore. Manzarek was a musician, author and film maker. To truly understand the influence that Ray Manzarek has in the music community several points will be focused upon. The first section will include biography information of Ray Manzarek. The second focus will be on the musician that had inspired Manzarek to be a musician. Additionally the topic will cover the instrument that Manzarek played. In the beginning Manzarek hated learning how to play the piano. Manzarek main problem at first was being able to read sheet music, but after his first piano teacher played a sample of it Manzarek was able to got the hang of it (Manzarek 1998 p26). Manzarek (1998, p.32) stated that he doesn’t know who was the first blues artist he heard but he fell in love with the sound right away. Additionally Manzarek trained both of his hands by doing “all of the hits of the day, pounding that left hand while doing a glissando and then triplets with my right hand (Manzarek, 1998 p.42).” Furthermore to support himself in college he was in his brother surf band called Rick and the Ravens, ray at the time was known as “Screaming Ray Daniels” for blues singing he got 30 dollars a week (Manzarek, 1998
