Book Review: Ray Lewis (I Feel Like Going on: Life, Game, and Glory) The book I chose to read about was from the legendary Baltimore Ravens linebacker and one of the greatest defensive players of his generation, Ray Lewis. This self-titled book Ray Lewis ?I Feel like Going on: Life, Game, and Glory? was an amazing tale of his life struggles and accomplishments. The book guides us through his 17 year professional football career, his two Super Bowls, the mark he was blessed to be able to make on the game and on the city of Baltimore. But it also tells the story of how he grew up abandoned by a no-account father and raised with siblings by a God-fearing, hardworking single mother. It tells how he

Ray was recruited by Florida State, the University of Miami and many other schools. Event with high profile recruiting from these schools many still under rated Ray?s ability. In 1993 Ray had cut his list down two schools which where FSU (Florida State) and MIA (University of Miami) doing this time Ray wanted to go to Florida State but he had to wait for his test scores before commenting. In a blessing that no one would get to see until later Ray test scores came a week later than another player, Ray was told by FSU coaches that they no longer had a scholarship available. Which led him to eventually commenting to the University of Miami. Once at Miami Ray was still looked at as underrated, which he hated he felt he was better than what people thought he was. Ray didn?t start at the University of Miami, which made him have chip on his shoulder. Once he got his opportunity he never looked back. Ray won many awards like All-American honors, led the Big East in tackles his last two seasons and accumulated the fifth most in Miami history. It was divine intervention he was meant to be great at the University of Miami. Despite playing only three seasons in 1996, Ray was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round at the 26th pick, where he stayed his whole career. The Day he got drafted there were still people asking questions and doubting Ray?s ability to play on the pro level. Questions were flying all around: Is Ray good enough or fast …show more content…
Ray?s football ability was doubted from high school and through to the pros. He was left for doom when faced with a possible murder charge. The world has consistently turned its back on him and he has always found a way out. He knows that God holds the key to everything and with his faith he has been able to make a way. Ray took all of his past, all of his pain and all of his doubts and turned it around to become the best linebacker in history. The title of his book was so fitting because each time he was knocked down he must have repeatedly to himself ?I feel like going

Both March: Book One by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell and Black Power by Stokely Carmichael recount the difficulties African American citizens faced in receiving their basic rights as free people. March specifically details John Lewis' growth as an advocate for the Civil Rights movement inspired by the injustices he faced both in childhood and as an adult. Black Power makes a compelling argument that the issue of black people being denied their rights is actually the responsibility of white people. Each of these articles supports the claims that opponents shaped the movement more than long-standing grudges, white Americans' misguided help was, in reality, a hindrance to the movement, and nonviolence was significant in attaining…

    Rudy Identity Essay

Rudy had people who were against his dreams and thought that they were childish and that he should just forget about it and grow up. Rudy didn’t let those people stop him from completing his dream in the long run though, he kept going forward and the only person who was in the way of his dream was himself. It was the people who did support him and didn’t think that his dream was stupid who kept pushing him forward when he was willing to give up. The biggest example of this was when Rudy was going to quit the team right before the last game his senior year season, but Fortune gave Rudy a big speech about how he was part of the Notre Dame for two years then quit and how he’s regretted it ever since, and how he knows Rudy would also regret it if he were to quit the team. Once Rudy heard that he went back to practice and because he did that he ended up making his dream come…

“There is one vice of which no man in the world is free; which every one in the world loathes when he sees it in someone else; and of which hardly any people, except Christians, ever imagine that they are guilty of themselves” (Lewis 121). Effectively drawing the reader in, C.S. Lewis opens the eighth chapter of the third book in Mere Christianity with this quote. Unfortunately, pride or self-conceit are vices that affect humans without exception. Lewis writes that all sin roots itself in pride. In reading this bold observation, one begs the question, “is pride really the root of all sin, or is the thought exaggerated?”…

Although Forward, by Abby Wambach, was a relatively easy read, it is one of my stronger book recommendations. It was a really interesting book to read. Mostly because I had a vision of the GOAT (greatest of all time) of being this perfect role model who was just an athlete, but it was quickly overturned. I had no clue that she had a serious drug and alcohol problem prior to reading her memoir. It was an engaging book because it was almost like getting to know someone, underneath their public face.…

Ray Human beings continually interact with the environment in different capacities and as a result are influenced by systems that play an important role in their overall development. The external variables in the environment, such as influences from society, culture, and the like, have a profound impact on the social, physical and emotional development of human beings. For this reason, sociologists are continually researching on external systems found in the environment and assess them based on their effect on the development of human beings. Social work according to Remear (2006), tries to achieve social development through the assessment of changes that occur in the society. The ones I have read have been strictly informational and in general very uninteresting. However, I am excited to read a biography as as of late there have been quite a few I have wanted to read and I think I will find them more interesting than what I traditionally associate with nonfiction books. 2) I am reading the memoir Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson.…
