He gives so much detail into the character's personality and setting the reader has a perfect picture in their mind of what's happening in the story. The majority of Bradbury stories take place in futuristic settings but can still be relatable to present day. The stories All Summer in a Day and The Veldt show elements of Bradbury’s short stories that help the reader visualize the story because of his creative ability through description, figurative language, and setting.

It rains every day there and no one has seen the sun in a long time, except for a small girl named Margot who is bullied for remembering the sun when the other children don’t. Margot was “a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost.” This confirms what Margot looks like. The story hints that something happened to Margot that caused her to be this way. The run on sentences in the story give lots of description which help the reader visualize how Margot looked, how she looks now, and part of her personality. Like that story, The Veldt is about a nursery that can change to look like whatever the children want it to look like. In the majority of the story, the nursery is Africa, “The hot straw smell of lion grass, the cool green smell of the hidden water hole, the great rusty smell of the animals, the smell of dust like a red paprika in the hot air. …show more content…
Ray Bradbury uses futuristic settings in his stories. In All Summer in a Day the setting is on Venus. On Venus, it rains every day. The sun never comes out except for once every seven years. Because in present day it is not possible to live on Venus, Ray Bradbury’s creative ability is shown. The Veldt takes place in a children's playroom (nursery) that can change to anything the children's minds. Africa is what the nursery is in almost the whole story. The Veldt also shows his creative ability because the story has technology that hasn't even been invented yet. Since there are no smart houses yet, the setting is, like Bradbury’s other stories, in the future. Since the two settings are set in the future, that causes the plot to happen, which shows the author's creativity ability. The setting helps the reader visualize the story because since these settings are in the future, nobody has ever seen them before, so Bradbury has to use descriptive details that help the reader visualize the unknown settings. Ray Bradbury has written many unique stories. By using futuristic settings and plots the stories are very fascinating. He uses many descriptive details and figurative language that shows his creative ability and allows the reader to have a vivid picture of the story. People who like descriptive and detailed sci-fi stories will love Bradbury’s

In “All Summer in a Day,” Bradbury describes his setting using similes and metaphors. Using the metaphors and similes that are included in “All Summer in a Day,” helps us create a vivid image in our head whereas the movie, the setting was nothing like the short story.…

There are many passages in Inkheart, written by Cornelia Funke, that the author helps me feel as if I am actually in the book, experiencing what the characters are. One way the author does this is by including figurative language. Funke uses figurative language that help the reader visualize and compare how something might look like given the examples. Similies can give a comparison that will help the reader see the scene that is going on. Analyzing Ray Bradbury’s literary devices of figurative language and diction resulted in the identification of the miserable tone. Figurative language uses various words with multiple meanings, a connotative and denotative definition, to convey a heightened effect on the audience. Ray Bradbury utilizes a plethora of similes in his writing. For example, he describes how Montag “wore his happiness like a mask and the girl had run off across the lawn with the mask and there was no way of going to knock on her door and ask for it back” (Bradbury 9). Bradbury identifies his tone through the use of Montag’s unhappiness and uncertainty between his point of view on books.…

Bradbury uses literary allusions to children's literature that reflects a child's imagination: How many times in the last year had he opened this door and found Wonderland, Alice, the Mock Turtle, or Aladdin and his Magical Lamp, or Jack Pumpkinhead of Oz, or Dr. Doolittle, or the cow jumping over a very real-appearing moon-all the delightful contraptions of a make-believe world. How often had he seen Pegasus flying in the sky ceiling, or seen fountains of red fireworks, or heard angel voices singing. Bradbury's references are deliberate.
