You’re Gonna Get It Big Time! A Look Inside ‘Raven’s Home’ Episode 5

[Contains Spoilers for Raven’s Home Episode 5: You’re Gonna Get It]
When you were a kid, did you try to prove a point to your parents, only for it to backfire horribly? Nia and Tess learn the hard way in this week’s episode of Raven’s Home.

Meanwhile, Booker tries to stop the outcome of a vision coming true involving Levi.

Do the Opposite Of What Your Mother Tells You Frustrated, Nia goes behind her mother’s back, stealing some of Raven’s from her makeup bag.

Ordinarily, the friends draw the attention of Shannon, the coolest 8th grader at their school. Shannon asks them to sign her petition for the 8th graders to attend a climate change rally. Nia tells her that they

Raven comments that she should have used the ‘sick puppies’ excuse a long time ago. Chelsea mentions they filed formal complaints against two guys who were eyeballing them.

Raven’s phone rings. It’s Paisley calling. She tells Raven that she’s bringing the puppy equivalent of chicken noodle soup over. Raven panics with Chelsea remarking that Raven needs to tell Paisley the truth. Raven again says she can’t. She then devises a plan to trick Paisley. Chelsea then guesses what Raven’s plan is.

The plan is to find two dogs to act as Nia and Booker. Paisley shows up with her soup and is surprised that the dogs are two different breeds.

Raven says she sees love, not breed.

Paisley, then asks if the dogs shake and Raven tells her no. The large dog shakes hands with her.

Raven’s phone rings and the larger dog starts barking. The man that owns him calls, telling Raven that his dog barks when someone’s phone rings. Raven remarks that he could have told her sooner.

Levi and Booker arrive home to the carnage. Levi asks Chelsea, what’s going on. Chelsea advises him not to ask questions. She informs the boys that if they hide under the coffee table, she’ll give them cookies.

Paisley announces that Raven is doing to dogsit for her while she’s

She makes a joke that the reason she wears makeup is because she’s old, she’s tired and she has kids. She then tells Nia that she’s grounded.

Lost…Under The Coffee Table
The episode ends with Raven and Chelsea ready for bed. They both feel like they’re forgetting something, but can’t put their fingers on it. They’ve forgotten Booker and Levi, still hiding under the coffee table.

Jokes And Gags
This week’s episode had a couple of running gags.

“You’re gonna get it.”
The main running gag is the quote:

“You’re gonna get it!”

The quote is aimed at Nia and her wearing makeup. It is said by Raven, Booker and Tess.

A Little White Lie
The episode explains that Raven lied her way into her job. She tells Paisley that she had dogs named Booker and Nia. The lie only gets bigger as the episode goes on. Luckily, Paisley is none the wiser.

Nose Nuggets
During the gym class, the coach kept calling Booker ‘Booger’.

Conclusion
While it is not my favourite, this episode was full of humor. I wish Chelsea had a larger role.

George Saunders’ “Puppy” and Toni Morrison’s “Recitatif” tell of two different stories with different characters in presumably different time periods. Both authors have drastically different backgrounds that bring them to these tales. However, their works of literature are more comparable than one would initially think. From the perspective of the reader, the intent of Puppy was to stress that there is often more to something than meets the eye and that because of this, we tend to want for things that we do not really understand. The families that appear in this story are perceived differently on the surface than they actually are underneath everything.…

The story demonstrates how the relationship between individuals and the pack grows incrementally divergent, and how the language as an embodiment of human intelligence stratifies the pack hierarchy and complicates the dogs’ communication to the humans. In the story “Fifteen Dogs”, the author André Alexis frequently uses personification and anthropomorphism to vivify the dogs’ behavior. The attitude towards the introduction diverges as some of the dogs do not like it, while the other dogs like it and they want to continue living with it. After the exiles and conspired murders, the dogs within the remaining group led by Atticus’s hierarchy are in relationship of domination.…
