These drugs are often referred to as club drugs. Ravers may use an array of drugs, but MDMA (Ecstasy), GHB (liquid Ecstasy), Methamphetamine (speed, crystal, meth), Ketamine (special k), Rohypnol (Roofie, roche), and LSD (acid) are the most commonly used. The stimulant drugs such as MDMA and methamphetamines cause an increased heart rate, convulsions, rise in body temperature, insomnia, slurred speech, and grinding of teeth, just to name a few. The sedative or hallucinogenic drugs such as GHB, Rhypnol, and Ketamine can slow breathing, cause a low heart rate, cause tremors, and nausea. These are just some of the effects of the drugs that can be found at raves, the most common effects of all drugs used can include anxiety, panic, depression, euphoria, loss of memory, hallucinations, and psychotic behavior. The police should set up community programs to help educate the youth about the dangers of these parties. The raves, if they are going to be allowed, should be regulated. Prohibiting adults and juveniles from attending the same rave would also be an effective method to use. One last effective way to control or eliminate raves is to prosecute the rave operators for drug offenses that are found at the venue. (Scott, 2002).
