In 1955 a psychologist named Albert Ellis created a cognitive behavioral therapy called; Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy or REBT. Ellis’s therapy makes a client challenge their beliefs of irrationality with ones more rational. An example of an irrational thought is: “Everyone canceled on going to the club this weekend, everyone hates me!” Ellis noticed three things people were ignoring while he was creating REBT; people ignore positivity, people over exaggerate the negative, and people find unjustified reason to it. Demands such as a want or a must lead to emotional disturbances. REBT is based on Ellis’s A-B-C model; A is the actual event if disturbance, B is the evaluation of client’s belief, and C is the concomitant or the consequence
