Some decisions are simple and we can choose the correct answer without much thought, but that is not always the case. In certain situations we have to make big life altering decisions that takes lots of time and energy to determine the right decision. In the next five years, more specifically the next year, I am going to have to make the big decision about what major to declare to set myself up for my future career. This decision has been weighing on me for the past few years, and with the deadline fast approaching, I will not be able to put it off much longer. In an effort to help make this decision clearer, I will be using Figure 15.1: Rational Decision-Making …show more content…
To determine what these are, I picture myself creating a list of pros and cons of each business major St. Thomas has to offer. I love making pros and cons list because it allows me to compare and contrast the different things each has to offer. To find the pros and cons of the different majors, I plan on meeting with people in the career center, taking the different types of tests they have, and attending seminars. Before making my decision, I would also like to meet and talk with different business professionals (mainly St. Thomas graduates) to learn about how they used their majors to get to where they are in their careers. Shadowing these people would really help me get a grasp and make sense of the information I will gain through my decision-making process. Throughout this process, I plan on gaining as much information as I can about each field because I want to be certain that I know exactly what I want to do when I graduate. I know that it is nearly impossible to make this decision under conditions of certainty (having all the information needed to make the best possible decision) due to the time constraints, I do not plan on satisficing (choosing solution that is good enough) because this decision will determine what I want to do for a majority of my life (Gulati, Mayo, and Nohria

There are many important decisions to make in a person’s lifetime. One major decision they have to make is a college they want to attend. Senior year is when everyone really needs to start thinking about where they want to go to college or where they want to start working. Two colleges I really want to go to are Bowling Green State University or Ohio University. The colleges I’m looking at both have the majors I would like to go for, which is business or accounting.…

I have opted to enter college “undecided”. I have done so in order to prevent myself from switching majors multiple times once enrolled as so many others have been known to do. Rather, I plan to complete my prerequisite courses during my freshman and into my sophomore year. Then, once I’ve had the opportunity to speak with others in the career trajectories of my interests (anatomy/physiology, anthropology, medical technology), I’ll make a decision on the additional courses I will need to take toward my decided major. Once I have a degree in my desired field, I hope to get a job directly out of college in order to begin paying off the student loans that I accumulate.…

I was also able to decipher which majors I would best fit my skills and personality. This led me to narrow down my choice of majors to accounting and finance.
