Firstly, the commonly known brown, Norway, rats infest the city of New York and various other locations in Europe. Their population has been estimated to the millions. Though many try to keep the creatures out most attempts fail as these rats possess a skill unlike most animals. According to source 2 “a rat’s teeth are harder than iron or steel, and are easily able to gnaw through substances like cinder block or wood.” This proves a challenge to those who may come in contact with a rodent in their workspace or office. Rats also tend to avoid traps much easier than expected due to their quick wits and ability to adapt to environments with ease.

Article 4 interviews resident and they state “... homeowners are being invaded by mice and field rats which are thriving in the burned-out areas recovering from the wildfires … because there are very few predators. And with the regrowth of vegetation, the rats and mice have an ample food source and are reproducing quickly.” This quote shows the cause and effect of the wildfire. How its aftermath could be the future of many areas due to dry land, prone to fires. Thus causing the rat population to escalate
