Rashida Monologue

While on the refugee boat lining up to get soup, I tried to hide my face, due to people not particularly liking women. While waiting in the line, to get soup three smaller kids were behind me complaining about being hungry, I when suddenly my blanket fell off revealing me, everyone one was staring at me. I was just wearing my usual clothes shorts, t-shirt with a sparkly pattern on it, my favourite lace-up construction boots, make-up which included my green lipstick. I pretended not to notice, as I was pretty hungry, so I kept holding out my tin to the sailor but he kept saying “no soup” after he said it the second time I just gave up. Then a little girl cried out ‘it’s not fair’ then she started to say something but one of the older boys covered her mouth and asked for soup but he got none so they sat behind me and they boy gave her a lecture about something. I suddenly turned towards the younger kids I decided to speak to the “that lizard breath need to be taught a lesson. Hi I’m Rashida”. Hi Rudin, Thanks for letting me know of your upcoming run-through. No I'm not sick and tired at all, I am excited for you (tired maybe lol). If I would live closer I wouldn't have to think about it at all, even with the Rose Bowl on at the same time. I am not surprised the maestro would not like to have anybody at the rehearsal, I was actually thinking of asking for myself, but I dismissed the thought for that reason, remember in London they didn't like it either. Thanks for willing to Skype, but under the circumstances, I will go to the Rose Bowl.…

After putting on our bright pink leotards and ballet shoes, which trust me we're not the most fashionable, we went out to the car to wait on Dianna’s mom. I should mention it was still raining as if the earth would flood outside, this made it slightly hard to hear but we ran out to the car anyway. Me, Dianna, and Dalton bolted through the door, sprinting to the car that Dianna had unlocked with the small remote. The cold rain made the humid, hot day not feel as bad as the rest of that summer had been, which was dry and hot. When we got into the car we sat for a bit but then Dianna decided she wanted to turn on the music so she jumps to the front seat of the car.…

I am aware that the words I have encompassed in this letter will never be enough to heal our shared pain. However, I am writing to you to express the thoughts that have been consuming me; the ones I should have shared before I had to leave. Perhaps if we could have conveyed our feelings towards each other about the horrors we witnessed—the ones that occurred while we stood idly by—there would have been different results. Therefore, I’m going to elaborate on my experiences during the darkest time in our nation’s history. I was always fond of our cozy little farm, nestled on the peaceful outskirts of Dachau.…

They would've both agreed with him too, Jack thought, but that didn't stop him from cringing a little at what would've been an insult to just about anyone else. He set one mug in front of Jasper and perched sideways on his chair with the other cradled precariously in his palm, like a beer can, elbows on his knees, eyeing the boy across from him with new scrutiny.…
