7 December 2016 “Rapunzel” and Tangled Essay. The movie Tangled was based off of Brother Grimm’s short story “Rapunzel”. So to make a short story into a two hour movie, they would have to make many changes. Rapunzel’s character has many differences, along with the storyline. The short story is a bit more darker than the movie, so I can see why there are changes. Therefore, the two fantasies are more different than similar. Since there is so many “dark things” and it is a short story so they would have to add and take out things. For example, in the story, Rapunzel becomes pregnant. I don’t necessarily think Disney would let that slide in their movie. It’s not to “kid friendly”. However, in the story the prince, or Flynn, sees her a few times rather than hiding once from the police. It seems a bit weird for him to come over and over again. The two go on a journey which makes them fall in love. Another thing is, how the “prince” gets hurt; the movie he gets stabbed, story he falls out the window. Rapunzel’s hair is magic so it would be likely for her to heal him. But, Grimm chose not to make her have magic hair which is weird. In the end, she heals him with her tears, which is in both the story and movie.

For example, the movie Is based off of the story. So, of course they would have to make comparisons. I feel like they should have made more to make the storyline more understandable. However, the movie still focuses on Rapunzel. They seem to make her very different in the movie though. She’s still the same girl with long hair. Also, the tower; Rapunzel still stays locked up alone far in the woods. She waits for her prince patiently. Then they’re supposed to fall in love. Although the movie and story are different and similar, they’re both very enjoyable

For instance in the story hannah is a very young and mindless little 12 year old, and in the movie she is 17 and more understanding and knows what to do in a troubling situation. Also in the movie a young lover boy likes hannah and wants to help her escape the concentration camp, but in the book she is too young to have a boyfriend. Another difference would be when she is opening the door for elijah in the book she sees a man in a field singing and approaching her, but in the movie she goes right into a hallway. In the book the people always called her chaya but in the movie they never called her chaya they kept it at hannah. Also in the movie the jews in the concentration camp have a passover for rivka after her mother died to calm her nerves, but in the book they do not have the second passover, and rivka does not even have a mom in the book.…

The movie has all the same main characters and it allows them to progress and develop through out the second film. A great example of this development would be when Woody goes out to save Buzz Lightyear from Sid, the toy destroyer, in the first movie and Buzz realizes that he is just a toy and that Woody is trying to help save him from the scary kid. They then become friends, and this friendship gives Buzz the motivation to keep pushing to try to save Woody when he gets kidnapped. The two movies portray a similar style as well. They both have comical moments and scenes that will show the toys emotions.…
