Rapists: Do People Get Offer?

Improved Essays
Crimes come in abundant amounts. Several crimes have varied amount of stages and categories. For example, rape, there are four types of rapists. The highest common rapist is power reassurance perpetrators. These rapists target strangers who are around their age for social gain due to a dysfunctional sexual encounter. Due to the various crimes and intentions of crimes, it takes an adequate investigation and evidence to catch most criminals. Furthermore, rape is being recognized as a new slang word rather than a real violent act. Rape is rape, everyone who commits the crime should be punished. If the women or man are pursuing an individual that says no, then they should accept it. The problem is that a person does not accept no as an answer, they feel rejected, embarrassed, even angry when an individual tells them no they do not want to engage in sexual activity with them. I feel strongly that rape perpetrators should be punished severely, no matter if they sexually assault a stranger or a niece, both situations are horrifying for the victim. Granted the victim is going to be more hurt and horrified if the rape was committed by a family member, but why should the perpetrator that raped a stranger get off easier? When …show more content…
If a rape case goes to court, the court should protect the victim. The court should be sure the perpetrator would intimidate the victim. If feel when the victim testifies the rapist should not be in the room, for the victim protection. Rape victims should be kept out of the media, the victim went through a traumatic, horrifying experience, the victim should not have to hear about his/her experience over and over in the press. Until the verdict of the judge or the jury, the rapist needs protection as well. Many people disagree with this, but I feel the individual deserves to be punished and suffer a life in prison if he/she committed the

Can you imagine walking down the street and passing a sex offender? Odds are you have passed something like three in the last month. Now imagine passing a victim. It is likely that you have seen more than can even be calculated, primarily due to the fact that most victims do not report their attack. While these numbers are not prudent to my argument, I would like the idea of perpetrators and victims to ruminate in your head for a bit.…

Rape victims are still silenced by the system, they are degraded, humiliated and not taken seriously. Many men and women are afraid to report rape because they are afraid of being disregarded. If changed, the crime of rape might be lessened, because it is my belief that rapists trust that the government’s patriarchal system is on their side, protecting them. Even if all rape cases were taken seriously and actions were taken against rapists, the crime would still occur, as all crimes do, but it might be a safer place for victims, if they knew they had the government fully on their…

    Brock Turner Rape

Rape survivors do not report their rape or sexual assault because they don't have enough proof or evidence, they don't believe justice would be served or if the justice system would even do anything, or they fear the justice system. Brock Turner was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman who was unconscious. He was only sentenced for six months and he only served three months because of good behavior. Turner was able to get the light sentence because if the survivor was unconscious or heavily intoxicated, the perpetrator can get less time in jail (Bever and Wang). This isn’t only rape cases where the survivor was intoxicated.…

Rape and sexual assault are relevant topics in today’s society. One in six women in the United States “has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime” (“Effects”). The perpetrators are often not prosecuted or expected to take responsibility for their actions. For example, in the rape case “Turner vs. the People,” Stanford Swimmer, Brock Turner, was accused and found guilty of three felony counts of sexual assault and only spent three months in jail, far less than the maximum fourteen years that he could have faced (Stack). Even though he raped an unconscious woman, Brock Turner was only sentenced to six months because, according to the judge: “A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him” (Stack).…

The only thing we can do as society is come together as a whole and fight for what is right. The justification of not only men who rape but women who rape should be an ongoing fight. In order to prevent the entirety of the rape epidemic per se is to inform others. One must inform others of the risks of being raped or sexually abused, and how to act during the situation. With this in mind we are able to continue spreading the awareness and create a safe environment for future generations to live in.…

Many people want them to be put away for life with no bars held. Others go for more humane routes and suggest they be placed in therapy. Many times victims view that it is up to them to perpetrate awareness about sexual assaults and speaking out about their experiences. The unfortunate downfall of this is that many people unaware of the details of the case will blindly support the accused thinking the victim is overreacting or attacking the “innocent” offender because they want attention. It is especially difficult when the sex offender does not fit the stereotype of a creepy or inappropriately behaved individual to the public eye.…

Particularly when the victim is intoxicated, acting on severely impaired judgement! Unfortunately that is not the case. If people would only use discretion, be in more touch with their moral compass, better decision-making would result. I would argue that it won’t stop all sexual assaults but it would likely have a positive impact in reducing the number significantly. The consequences of these selfish acts are horrid, demeaning and unimaginable.…

The problem with America’s rape culture is that we believe that there isn’t one. Where in fact, 1 out of every 5 women in America has been a victim of rape or sexual assault as of 2015. We live in a country where the accusations of the victim are often considered false, made up in order to receive money and attention. Where the attacker is deemed an innocent man, free to roam the streets looking for his next victim; meanwhile, the one before is corrupted beyond repair, nearly as much as American Justice itself.…

This explains why sexual assault is widely considered to be the most underreported violent crime in the United States. Survivors have stated some of the reasons they did not report their sexual assaults. The survivors said they were in fear of reprisal, they did not think their case was important enough to respond to, they had a belief that the police would not do anything to help, they did not want family or others to know, they feared there was a lack of evidence and many more reasons. Due partially to low reporting rates, only 9 percent of all rapists get prosecuted. Only 5 percent of cases lead to a felony conviction.…

Sexual intercourse plays the most important role in keeping humankind alive, yet it’s violated severely through prostitution, pornography, premarital sex, adultery, masturbation, and the worst offense of all: rape. Despite rape being a grave violation of the human body through force of sexual actions without consent, the judicial branch of the United States government seems to have no care in the matter whatsoever. The people of our generation seem only to care about this curse when it directly affects them. Somehow, we allow these monsters less to no jail time for their crimes, usually do with the fact that they attempt to make it about themselves and that,” They were the real victims”.…

All types of rape lead to the same outcome, which the victims fear in something if not everything. Clearly what angers the rape lobby (and the rest of us) is that a lot of men get away with rape, either because women can’t or don’t report it, or because the courts can’t or don’t prove it. It is also true…
