One treatment option is rape therapy, which depends on the individual and their circumstances, but common rape therapies are stress inoculation, prolonged exposure, cognitive processing, eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), and supportive counseling. Stress inoculation therapy was developed to treat elevated fear and anxiety as well as avoidance behavior. Prolonged exposure therapy is known as flooding and is a way of desensitizing a person to the trauma of rape through repeated exposures to memories of the traumatic event. Cognitive processing therapy is designed to help people suffering from PTSD and depression. Eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy specifically designed to address trauma survivors. Supportive counseling, is where the therapist provides unconditional positive regard, active listening and general support. Having stricter university policies that are followed through, such as kicking them off of sports teams, not living on campus, expelled from the university, and handed over to local police. Better training in orientation and more throughout the college years in explaining what rape is, and how to know when someone gives consent to have sex or to not have sex. Have fraternity training and sports training on sexual assault. Some stay sober during parties, what to look for in situations, hasher chapter punishments if in violation of sexual assault or rape. Teach students how to foresee possible abusive situations and develop escape plans. Also, the government needs to promote more transparency in the handling of college institutions. With greater awareness about the sexual assault and rape epidemic and higher accountability for colleges the problem of rape and sexual assault on campus will no longer
