Brock Turner Rape Analysis

Brock Turner’s attack all began at a Fraternity party where he happened to be very intoxicated, clearly emphasized in his mugshot shown in figure 1. Supposedly, Brock and his date, not yet a victim, were hitting it off and left the party together. In the article Rape culture, Victim Blaming, and the Facts, “most sexual assaults are committed by someone the victim knows”, this is clearly shown as the victim was getting to know Brock and most likely trusted him. The story then fast forwards to two Swedish students confronting a man who seemed to be standing over an unconscious woman by a dumpster (Koren). When first being charged with the crime of rape, Brock claimed that the woman had consented to sexual contact, but the woman rebutted his statement claiming she had no memory of that night, especially the assault. It was later confirmed in the police report that Brocks blood alcohol level (BAC) was twice the legal limit, with his victims at triple the legal limit. Although, the actual assault is a large aspect to this argument, it was the trial of Brock Turner that started all the controversy that came with this particular case.
