As stated above, I would first employ the guidelines of effective listening (Collins, 1995). Using the theocentric approach that points out to the victims that God is present during times of distress such as this and ultimately has a purpose for their lives (Collins, 1995). Pointing out also that God is the only one that can provide true healing to their situation. I believe that the influencing skills would be useful in that they can help approach behavior changing while moving towards the disciple making counseling. Turning the victims horrible incident into a purpose for helping others who have been through similar situations has the potential of creating paraprofessionals (Collins, 1995). I believe that disciple making is a included approach in all counseling efforts that use the theocentric approach. There are great rewards to creating disciples that have fully healed from the scar of their incidents, and this case would not be any different. Though the incident was horrific, God can ultimately get glory through this by taking this incident and encouraging the victims to share their story while expressing their emotions openly. The statistics on what happens to those convicted of a sex based crime on a college campus is embarrassing to say the least. Until we do a better job of deterring and preventing those from committing sex based crimes and equally as important do a better job of protecting victims, then our attention, time, and commitment is still needed. This issue of campus safety may be eclipsing other issues, but my argument is it must be a priority until college campuses can be safe for all students, staff and faculty and visitors. Our attention cannot be diverted from safety until it is safe, and then and only then can we begin to meet the other very real needs of equal pay access and…

The Hunting Ground documentary film sparked awareness to the plague of sexual assault across American college campuses. This film displayed American universities’ blatant disregard for upholding national (Title IX) terms of student safety. Moreover, it revealed several student’s adamant struggle to eradicate the disgusting epidemic of rape culture and school official’s systematic intention to silence victims on college campuses. Though the statistics of sexual assault were horrendous enough, I was most disturbed by the victim’s personal testimonies. It was extremely disheartening to hear the victim’s experiences of despair, and their stories of being blamed and shamed for crimes they did not commit.…

Introduction The most effective approach to counseling anyone, whether that is in a business office or a counselling room, is to reach the entire person holistically. The person’s mind, body and spirit are all interconnected and a problem cannot be resolved until it is approached through all parts. Often, counselors want to “fix” the problem that a person is dealing with, like depression, by giving them medicine and “curing” the actions of being depressed without rooting out the source of the depression. The type of counseling where this will most likely happen in through working an office as a secretary or on the mission’s field in another country and will be through presenting the Gospel to unbelievers.…
