Date rape is “forced sex that can happen on a date but also somewhere like a party with someone the victim may know, like, or even be interested in” (New). On the other hand, as far as rape goes it is not about sex or passion. A person would have to be sick in the head if they decide to force sex on somebody. Forced sex would be described as an act of violence or aggression (New). The topic of love and date rape do not go together, it is a joke when it comes to talking about rape. A healthy relationship will always have respect and someone who is worthy and treats the other like a person will respect your wishes and not force an unwanted act of intercourse

On Date Rape and Fallacious Arguments Camille Paglia is not a stranger to writing divisive editorials. As a self-proclaimed ‘social critic’, she said in response to criticism of her first book “Sexual Personae” published in 1990, “it was intended to please no one, and to offend everyone” (20Q). Thus, it should be no surprise that she has views on date rape that are unpopular for the current social mindset. In her editorial “On Date Rape”, Paglia declares “my kind of feminism stresses personal responsibility”, and concludes that if women are raped, it is because they do not acknowledge the inherent risk of interacting with men and are not protecting themselves accordingly (144, 145). In the editorial, Paglia is unapologetically unsympathetic…

Date rape drugs are substances such as rohypnol, GHB, and ketamine. Date rape drugs are somehow unknowingly slipped to the victim usually through a drink. The effects of theses substances make the victim more compliant and less able to resist, and typically have the effect of memory loss. It is clear that a person who is under the influence of some substance is unable to give consent to sexual relations. Because theses drugs are not being properly dosed as they would be by a prescriber there is a dangerously high chance of an over does thus leading to…

Fisher and colleagues, there are a handful of assessed risk factors that come with campus rape. These risk factors include prior victimization to college, substance use of alcohol and drugs, age and the year of study in college, race and ethnicity of victim, the residential status of the victim, sorority membership, dating violence history of the victim, consensual sexual experiences, and attitudinal characteristics of both the victim and the perpetrator. Substance abuse can play a large part in the raping of females on campus because it impairs their ability to resist, fight back, or call for help. But according to this final report on campus sexual assault, women of different ethnic backgrounds and/or of the lower classmen classification were more at risk for rape on campus. While more than half of sexual assaults against women of college age occur off campus, on campus assaults are a problem that college and universities can and should do more to address. The best statistics show there is a correlation between 3 factors, alcohol use, sorority membership, and class status, and sexual assault on campus. To combat these trends colleges and universities need to address these factors while taking into account that any measures they take not simply move the problem from campus to off campus locations. This means that the measures taken should be centered on raising awareness, encouraging responsibility, and holding offenders accountable in a just way, while also addressing the campus code of conduct.…

Date rape remains a common problem in the United States. Although typically misunderstood and unreported, the crime of unwanted intercourse brought upon by a familiar individual has become a subject of national concern. Authors Camille Paglia and Susan Jacoby express their opposing views as to the cause of the crime in their articles “Rape: A Bigger Danger Than Feminists Know” and “Common Decency”. While Paglia and Jacoby have conflicting arguments, Jacoby's use of ethos, logos and pathos outdo that of Paglia's, making her argument the most effective of the two regarding who is at fault for the crime of date rape. Susan Jacoby is a well-known writer and newspaper reporter which gives her much credibility.…

Sexual assault perpetrators usually prey in populations where people are new and those who don’t quite know the ropes yet. These colleges may also not know their boundaries, people around campus, and how to hold their liquor. When intoxicated or high on drugs, it is still rape to have sex with that person because their consent is not given. Reporting such a case is challenging especially when you can’t recall exactly what happened. Audrey Logan, a student attending Occidental College in 2010 experienced something similar.…
