Rap Vs Country Music Essay

What is it that Jimmie Rodgers and the Sugarhill Gang have in common? Both of these artist have created what is now known as the country and rap music genres. Country music was began in Southern United States from folk and blues music in the 1920’s. As well, rap music began in the 1970’s by inner city African Americans. Though, rap may be favored by many country music has a better quality. Country and rap have very different songs and instrument uses but they do have similar artist. To start, country music and rap music have immensely different songs. The lyrics in country songs commonly tell a story to the listener. Rap songs on the other hand is repetitive with their lyrics. Country songs are known for their use of acoustic guitars. They also use Southern instruments like the banjo and fiddle. Many classical country song and some new also put use to the harmonica. Rap music usually uses electronic beats and tunes. Most of the musical background in rap songs are pre recorded and not recorded by them. One major rap instrument is the beats they make with their own mouths like beat boxing. To summarize, country songs put use to several more instruments than rap making their music more unique. Furthermore, country and rap music may be very diverse but they do have some similarities like their artist. Both country and rap artist have predominantly male artist line up. Though, country music gender gap is slowly closing with an increase of female singers. Country and rap artist also want to express themselves in their songs. Every singer has a goal of expressing their feelings in their songs. Country and rap are both gaining younger artist like Kane Brown and Chance The Rapper.
