Moreover, rap music has created opportunities for young black men and women to build wealth, and opportunity. Black people are able to bring awareness to social injustice, poverty, crime and violence or what we know as life in the hood. For teens in poor communities, rap lyrics speak to their current reality and their fantasies of escape. And like all forms of music, rap offers a creative outlet and a way to connect with peers.
