What is one of the first thing you do when you get in the car? For many people the answer to this question is turn on the radio. Many people listen to the radio everyday whether it is on the way to school, work, or while sitting on the couch. Several times there are children in the car or room that the music is. Often kids are who hear this music do not have good role model and/or live in a rough side of town. This music is often rap. Feeling that the ideas in the song are the only ways to get by, they start to execute these actions. Rap music is harmful to child development especially ones with bad role models because they suggest Illegal things and they convince kids that they are necessary to become famous with school not required.
Many rap song have ideas such as sex drugs and steal in them. If children have bad role models they might look to rap artist for advice and think these ideas are correct. “Brown said he looks around the community today and sees how music controls the minds of many young …show more content…
Children think that this is how you succeed in life. As kids listen to rap music they get a version of the world that seems great but is not real. Adam Schwartz of Baltimore Sun writes a paper on this, in this paper he describe a student that he names Nathaniel for these purposes. He was hanging around my classroom during lunch when he began boasting to me about all the money he's making from his strip (the corner where he sells drugs)(Adam Schwartz, 1). He also explains in his article that Nathaniel thinks the only reason people buy from him is because of his sneaker. Adam Schwartz claims that because rappers are rapping about how your possession make you famous not your education. Kids are dropping out school believing that illegals things are what make you famous and gain money. When in reality most will only get a trip to jail and a fine they cannot
