Throughout Randy Pausch's childhood, he was influenced by the details around him. These details would help Randy Pausch become successful later on in his life. For instance during his childhood, Randy Pausch’s football Coach helped Randy become successful. Coach Graham was a very strict coach that would always push Randy to his limit. During Randy Pausch’s first day of training, Coach Graham made Randy practice without any footballs. This taught Randy about fundamentals. Randy learned that to do the hard tasks, you must first be good at the fundamentals. Randy learned the significance of fundamentals early on from his coach. As a result, by always taking time on the fundamentals, he became good at the hard tasks and would become successful as an adult. …show more content…
One of Coach Graham’s ideology’s is that self-esteem is not something one can get, but something one must build. During one game, Coach Graham humiliated Randy by not permitting him to drink water because he was not playing well. As a result, Randy Pausch built up his self esteem and played his best for the rest of that game. From his Coach, Randy was able to have high self-esteem, a quality he needed to become successful. All in all, some of Randy’s success can be owed to Coach Graham for teaching Randy valuable life lessons. Another detail from Randy Pausch childhood that made him successful was his admiration for Captain Kirk from Star Trek. Captain Kirk was an idol to Randy Pausch and helped him become successful. Captain Kirk was an idol because he, in Randy’s mind, was a great leader. By watching Captain Kirk run his ship, Randy Pausch was able to obtain leadership skills from him.
