Pausch’s Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams You would think a man dying of cancer would not be so happy and willing to spend the last few months of his life giving a lecture. But, Randy Pausch, who has 10 tumors in his liver, does not want people to pity him for having cancer. Rather, he wants to teach people how to follow their childhood dreams. Looking at the seven elements of communication we see how he is so effective in his last lecture. The lecture has affected me personally by letting me learn from some of Pausch’s past experiences. So, when you are teaching someone something and they do it perfectly you say, “That was good, but I know you can do better.” Also, Pausch says that brick walls let us show our dedication. When you are dealing with something that seems so hard to achieve you have to try really hard to achieve your goal in order to truly achieve it. There are so many other lessons that I learned from Pausch but those are the main three that I really learned from him. The structure of his presentation was perfect. He starts out by saying what he is not going to talk about because he does not want people to focus on these things in life. He then points out the things he is going to talk about which are his childhood dreams. He then goes on to tell us how he achieved those dreams. Finally, his expression or the way he conveyed the message to others was also important. By giving people lessons he learned along the way in his life he gave us the message of how to lead our lives.
In conclusion, Pausch gave this last lecture to give people the understanding of how to live your life to the fullest. The man knows he is going to die in a few months and all he wants to do is give people the message of how to lead your life.
