Me: How is your role in government different from an elected official?
Salvarez: The role I play in the government differs from those who are elected officials. For example, I review cases and then observe the evidence, I make sure that all the facts are facts and that they are justifiable. Us judges are here to serve the people, we aren’t elected on a political party, we are elected by the President and not the people.
Me: So the President elects judges and not the people because your main role is to on the people? I completely understand that. How are elected officials and judges the same?
Salvarez: Elected officials and judges are the same because we all serve the same purpose and that is to fulfil the will of the people. At the end of the day, we all want justice and equality in our communities, so we work hand in hand to do everything we can do just for the people. …show more content…
Do you feel that judges are appreciated?
Salvarez: I believe we are appreciated but it’s just the fact that people do not understand the big role we play as well as elected officials in our country. We can not really blame anyone but things like that do not really concern the people until election time or maybe not even by that time.
Me: That indeed is true because people do not know the facts when they are voting they just base their vote off what they were told. So do you think judges should be elected?
Salvarez: I believe the way it is is just fine. The president should always be the one to elect judges because if the people were able to do it they would not know what they are looking for.
