Ramon Mendoza Pascual migrated to the United States back in 2007. He and his family (wife and three children) walked through the dessert in Mexico and crossed the border with only one goal: to give their children a better life and to build a better future for them. He was a carpenter and used to volunteer for a local charity. One night, in September 2013, he had a few beers at a bar in Auburn, WA, and realized he was not going to be able to drive. He called his wife, Veronica Noriega, to pick him up, and waited in his car for her. By the time Veronica got there, Ramon was already gone; he had been arrested on suspicion of a DUI.
