The story of Moses leading the Hebrews out of Egypt has been told numerous times through various media, including film. Without fail, Ramesses II is almost always portrayed as the unnamed pharaoh of the Exodus. He is often regarded as Egypt’s greatest and most powerful pharaoh. Born in 1302 BC, he was the third Egyptian pharaoh of the Nineteenth dynasty. He is the second child of Seti I and Queen Tuya, and his only known sibling is Princess Tia. At fourteen years old, Ramesses was appointed Prince Regent by his father, making him pharaoh in his early 20s (Putnan). It is estimated that Ramesses ruled Egypt from 1279 BC to 1213 BC for a total of 66 years and 2 months, and lived to be almost 91 years old, longer than any other pharaoh (O’Connor …show more content…
He soon learns of Moses’ true lineage from Hegep. To test this new information, a servant named Miriam is brought before him for interrogation at the behest of Queen Tuya. Ramesses repeatedly questions Moses as to whether she is his sister or not. When Moses does not reply with a straight answer, Ramesses nearly cuts off her arm until Moses intervenes and reveals the truth. Queen Tuya wants Moses executed, but Ramesses cannot order the killing of the “brother” he was raised with for so long. Instead he commands that Moses is sent into exile, banished from the kingdom. Suddenly, a rock slide occurs and Moses falls down the mountain ending up unconscious and with a broken leg. When he awakens, he is immersed in mud and begins to hear a voice coming from a burning bush. As he tries to decipher the situation he is in, a child named Malak appears before him. It becomes evident that Malak is a representation of God who wishes to communicate with him.
