The patient is a 71-year-old female who is referred to the emergency room from the Ramapo Ridge psychiatric facility because of concern for possible temporal arteritis. The patient has been having bitemporal headaches. The psychiatrist from Ramapo Ridge ordered an ESR which came back markedly elevated at 68 so the patient was sent for consideration of possible temporal arteritis. She was started on IV Solu-Medrol in the ED. Her medical history is significant for diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypothyroidism, hyperlipidemia, lumbar spine stenosis, severe anxiety and depression which is being treated at the Ramapo Ridge psych facility.
