Ralph's Innate Goodness In Lord Of The Flies

“No, I’m not.I just think you’ll get back all right.” When Ralph realizes the harsh reality of rescue, Simon says this to Ralph to reassure him that everything will be alright. He could have said that they are dead, that no one will rescue them ,but instead, he lets Ralph know he’ll survive because of his kind nature. The same innate goodness is shown in Golding’s novel, the Lord of the Flies, in Ralph’s leadership, Samneric’s Loyalty, and Simon’s virtue.

In Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, Piggy says “But we’ve got to have a list. There’s you and me and Samneric and-” This was a difficult time for Ralph because a majority of the boys left to join Jack’s tribe. Very few boys that stayed were able to help Ralph maintain civilization. Samneric along with Piggy was loyal to Ralph and influenced to join Jack’s tribe like the others. On page 190 of Lord of the Flies, Sam said suddenly “Here! Take this-” Ralph felt a chunk of meat pushed against him and grabbed it. “But what are you going to do when you catch me.” Silence above. He sounded silly to himself. He lowered himself down the rack. “What are you going to do-?” From the top of the towering rock came the incomprehensible reply. “Roger sharpened a stick at both ends.” Even when captured and forced in Jack’s tribe, Samneric support Ralph. Ralph chased into the jungle by the demons,Jack’s boys, had no friend other than Samneric to turn to. He risked his life to see what they know about the hunt he was warned about, and as good loyal friends they gave him meat for energy and information about the hunt.
