The author Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow". I believe this statement to be true. If you do not set new goals for yourself, and never attempt to achieve your goals, then you will not be able to grow as an individual. Attempting to master new things is crucial to going beyond your current state as a person because you shall never know what you are truly capable of if you do not test your boundaries. Successful people love to show others that they can do more than anyone could have imagined. When people test where they sit in life and set goals for themselves, they often will be surprised of how much they can accomplish. These people have grown into unique individuals who have things to offer the world, because they went out and tried something that they have not done before. Emerson's statement can be reinforced with specific examples of individuals who set out to try something new. Life is made up of milestones; from junior high school to high school, from high school to college, from college to something better. Each of these milestones are accomplished by throwing yourself out there and trying something you have never experienced before. Every student through that process has no idea what to exactly expect. As stated previously, humans have an instinct to demand more from what life offers. Examine a hypothetical senior in high school. This senior can choose between entering the workforce, going to college for a higher education, or joining the military. The senior has been going to school for 12 years of his/her life; they know what they are doing in high school, for they mastered high school. The senior is making a choice to attempt
